History of Hawaii

Hawaii has a rich and interesting history. The islands are truly a melting pot of different cultures.

My favorite figure in Hawaiian History is Princess Ka'iulani. She was to the appointed heir to the Hawaiian throne when the Islands were annexed to the US. She lived a full life, but died at a very young age. Ka'iulani was a Christian, and full of life. I was impressed to find out all she did to try and save her people and her homeland.

I was amused when I read a story about Princess Ka'iulani and her governess. Let it suffice to say that the governess believed that the princess should not be spoiled. She needed to learn to respect the authority of others if she expected them to later respect her authority. I think that a lot of her wisdom and popularity can be attributed to this teaching.

I live in the Liliha district.  We are known for having a great elementary school (Mae'mae) and one of the best known bakeries on the Island.  The links below are of people and places in my neighborhood.
